Also at San Lorenzo is the Laurentian Library.
Designed by Michelangelo as a library to contain the vast collection of more than 20,000 rare books and manuscripts collected by the Medici, this library was open to the public and has vast reading rooms. The Medici family wanted to build a library that rivaled the Great Library of Alexandria.
