Thursday, May 27

Today, we all met at the famous Ponte Vecchio which dates from 1117. Quite a beautiful bridge, it was the only bridge left standing in Florence after the end of WWII. Hitler bombed all the other bridges to slow the advance of the Allies.

Many think it was left standing because in was one of Adolf Hitler's favorite monuments, and that he couldn't bring himself to destroy such a beautiful and historically significant structure.
